If you’re spending the day walking Athens, Bruncho in Mets is the kind of breakfast that actually holds you over. This isn’t a light continental spread. It’s the kind of meal that gets you through hours of sightseeing before lunch even becomes a thought.
Bruncho opened in the Mets neighborhood, a quiet, mostly residential pocket of Athens near the First Cemetery and the Panathenaic Stadium. It’s become a local favorite since opening, known for a menu that blends comfort food with more composed plates.
We ordered two pancake stacks: the pistachio and the choco-banana. Both came out towering, drizzled, and genuinely meant to be shared. The portions here are not modest. One order is easily enough for two people, especially if you’re planning to walk it off afterward rather than nap through it.
The choco-banana stack came layered with chocolate sauce, crushed biscuit, and fresh banana on top. Rich without being cloying. The pistachio version leaned lighter, with crushed pistachio, a delicate sauce, and kataifi (shredded phyllo) piled on top for crunch. Both were clearly made to order, not assembled from a pre-made batter sitting around.
Beyond pancakes, the menu covers savory brunch standards done well: avocado toast, eggs benedict and royale, a smashed burger, and a few salads if you want something lighter. Coffee is solid, which matters when you’re fueling up before a full day on foot.
The space itself is small and unfussy, with an outdoor patio that catches good light. It fills up on weekends, so if you’re going for a sit-down brunch before a day of Athens sightseeing, earlier is better.
