They always have a great ambiance and fun atmosphere that turns your diner experience in a party. One thing that separated Kinka from the other ones I’ve visited in the past was the taste of their food, it was fantastic. Since an Izakaya is a pub at the base the menu consist of small portion dish very similar to the Spanish tapas. This makes it a great gathering place if you are a group as I often find it very hard to satisfy everyone and this format does not need everybody to get their dish at the same time for diner. We were actually a group of 12 when we visited Kinka and opted for the tasting menu combine with a few other dish from the regular menu.
The tasting menu is as follows:
- Maguro Tataki (seared albacore tuna sashimi w/ponzu)
- Seaweed and Tofu Salad
- Karaage (deep fried chicken)
- Karubi (beef short ribs)
- Kakimayo (baked oysters)
- Gindara (black cod)
- Unagi Bibimbap (rice with bbq eel in a sizzling stone bowl)
- Black Sesame Ice Cream
Here’s a few of the dish we had during the evening that was also filled with liters of Sapporo’s . Kinka Izakaya 1624 Ste-Catherine W. (Faubourg St-Catherine) Montreal, QC, (514) 750-1624 www.kinkaizakaya.com
