I tried 1642 Cola, a cola made right here in Montreal, and I was pleasantly surprised. It tastes a little like Coke, but with a slight maple syrup note in the background. The maple is subtle, which keeps it from feeling gimmicky. It’s a classic cola with a local twist.
The name is a nod to 1642, the year Montreal was founded. That bit of history carries through to the packaging. The bottle design is simple and clean, and my favourite detail is the little image of Maisonneuve on the bottle cap.
The cola is made with real maple syrup and cane sugar, and the brand is proudly made in Montreal. It’s sold in stores across the province, and the website has a store finder to see where it’s available near you. Online stock can run out, so check there first.
If you like to support local producers who use local ingredients, you’ll probably enjoy this cola.
