Last Friday I paid a visit to the recently opened restaurant Jatoba. I like what they did with the place. Located in the old Philips Lounge building they changed it totally and made it a lot homier with a nice decor with brick and wood. I had made a last minute reservation and was actually lucky to get 2 places at the bar, the bar is nice and basically goes from one end to the other of the restaurant. It was a good spot to be at as I got to see some of the prep work for the dishes and had easy access to the bar. [caption id=“attachment_529” align=“aligncenter” width=“614”]

The food is of Asian touch with very interesting tastes. The concept is for sharing different dishes, our server recommended 2-3 per person. Our menu consisted of the following:
-
Ox tail dumpling with caramelized onions in a soya and yuzu beef broth.
-
Yellow tail tuna with jalapeno Asian pear and crispy ogo nori in clear soya
-
Beef Tataki with green bean, bitter peach, quinoa, enokis in a sonomono sauce.
-
Chicken kara-age in a fleur de sel and Chinese spices crust with ginger spinach
-
Vegetable fried rice
All the food was delicious but I particularly enjoyed the dumplings and the yellow tail tuna. They have good wine selection from different countries that allow you to choose the variety you like and besides having a cocktail menu also have a full bar. There are a lot of places opening in Montreal but if you are in the downtown area I would suggest you give it a try. They also serve lunch which could be a good way to enjoy their tasteful food. I strongly suggest a reservation the information is below or you can find them on Facebook.
