Some desserts are simple, and some are an entire production. The Baked Bear at Broadway at the Beach leans hard into the second category, and honestly, that is exactly the point.

How it works

This is a build your own ice cream sandwich shop. Pick your cookies or brownies for the top and bottom, pick your ice cream flavor for the middle, then decide if you want it rolled in toppings, drizzled, or served warm. With over a dozen scratch baked cookie options and just as many ice cream flavors, the combinations are basically endless, which is both the fun and the danger of the place.

What we got

One sandwich came built with the Nutella Chocolate Chunk Cookie on top, that marbled Nutella and chocolate cookie finished with a sprinkle of sea salt, paired with rich Dark Chocolate ice cream in the center, and the whole thing rolled in a thick coat of Mini M&M’s along the edge. Colorful, crunchy, and clearly built for people who want texture in every bite, not just sweetness. The other went the classic route on the cookie side, two Chocolate Chip Cookies sandwiching a scoop of Bear Batter ice cream, that bright blue cake batter base loaded with brownie pieces and sprinkles, finished with a generous Hot Fudge drizzle over the top. That blue, brownie packed base is a fan favorite flavor here, and it earns the reputation.

A few practical tips

  • Decide on your combo before you get to the counter, the options are genuinely overwhelming in the best way.
  • Rolling the sandwich in toppings like M&M’s adds crunch and makes it easier to eat without everything sliding out.
  • Ask about warming the cookie slightly if you want that fresh from the oven texture against the cold ice cream.
  • Portions are generous, splitting one between two people is a completely reasonable move.
  • They also offer gluten free and dairy free options if you are visiting with someone who prefers it.

The Baked Bear turns a simple ice cream sandwich into a genuine build your own experience, and once you see the combinations other people are ordering, it is hard not to start planning your next visit before you have even finished the first one.
